Facebook Helping Catch Criminals

The Medina Police Department, near Cleveland, is using the Internet to help catch criminals. It set up a page on Facebook with pictures and information on crimes in the area and has gotten tips directly from the community.

Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz, who recently brought back the "Mosted Wanted" suspects program in August, says a lot of local law enforcement agencies are turning to Medina to see how the Internet tactic plays out.

"From what I’ve been hearing, they’re having good results. So, we are kind of weighing those and checking to see if it’s something that we can do, " says Lutz.

Lutz says more and more people are utilizing the Internet.

"A lot of people don’t get a hard copy of the TR. They look at it on the website. A lot of people don’t have time to sit down at 6 or 11 and see the news. So, they are on the website. The website has opened up a wealth of info for people, " says Lutz.

Lutz says his office still needs to see if putting up its own page on Facebook would be beneficial.
