Preparing for Winter Weather
Wintry conditions are heading our way and there are certain things that you need to keep you prepared and safe throughout the frosty season.
Everyone should have an emergency weather supply kit in their car, as well as their home because you could get snowed in.
"In that kit you should have extra warm clothing for everyone in the house, especially hats and gloves in case you have to leave the house in the cold. You want to have a water supply, you want to make sure that you remember your pets. Food supply with a can opener manual one of course because if the power is out you can’t use the electric one," Julie Davis said from the American Red Cross.
You’ll also need a first aid kit, flash light, extra blankets, and a battery operated radio so you can be aware of what is going on. Whether in your car or home when the storm hits make sure you have a cell phone charger in your car.
"Everyone has a cell phone these days and you need to worry about especially if the powers out how are you going to charge that battery and a lot of people forget you can charge it in your car. You should have a charger for your cell phone in your car in case your power’s out,’ Davis said.
During the winter months be aware of changing weather and avoid unnecessary travel if there is bad weather on the way.
