Season Not Jolly for Everyone
While the holiday season can be a joyful time for most, it can quite different for those suffering from substance abuse issues.
During the holidays Muskingum Behavioral Health sees a drop in numbers, but after the new year, the numbers shoot up.
"For a lot of folks, this time of year is difficult, " said Executive Director Steve Carrel. "Those are the folks who seek help and some don’t get in bad enough shape to seek it. It’s a stressful time of year."
Carrel said during the holidays it is easy to mask problems.
"Holiday parties are usually associated with drinking," he said. "As a result of that, the use of alcohol, especially, goes up this time of year."
Carrel said if you or someone you know is dealing with a substance abuse issue, call Muskingum Behavioral Health at 454 – 1266.
