Keeping Convicted Killer Behind Bars
A Zanesville grandmother is doing everything in her power to keep a convicted killer behind bars.
Shirley West has been asking the public to send letters to D.R.C Victim’s Services in Columbus before Billy Joe Shafer’s parole hearing in January.
She says the response has been wonderful.
"It makes you feel good when you know that there’s that many people that support you, " says West.
West also plans to hold a rally January 3rd. There will be a special guest attending too…Shafer’s father. West says she was leery, at first, to invite him to attend.
"I said I don’t want to have to sugar coat my words or butter him up because you’re going to be there. He said no, Ms. West, I don’t want him out either, " says West.
The rally will be held at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Building on State Route 60 North.
Shafer was held responsible in the death of West’s granddaughter, Sara, back in 1993.
