McConnelsville Family Needs Late Christmas Present
This year, making ends meet has been more difficult for many people. But, imagine having to do that with a child who constantly needs medical attention.
WHIZ reporter Audry Kensicki takes us to meet a Morgan County family who’s wishing for a late Christmas present.
Meet twelve-year old Eddie Martin and his mother Amy. Eddie is a happy child who loves riding his bike and playing with his cars, especially with his younger brother. But a seizure disorder makes it hard for him to be just like any other child.
"They’re getting harder on him," said Amy. "Each time they’re having to life-flight him and they put the breathing tube in."
Amy says they’re trying to work out the best combination of medications, but until then Eddie will continue to experience seizures.
"Where he was having one to two a month, he’s having one a month now," she said. "They’re always prolonged; they can last up to four hours."
The latest episode happened Christmas Day. The family drove up to Genesis in Zanesville, but Eddie needed to be medflighted to Akron Children’s Hospital. Luckily, he was okay, but their van wasn’t.
"When we left Akron, when they released him, we were sitting in the parking garage and the van would not move," she said.
Amy’s husband Edward was able to get the van to Zanesville, still 30 miles from home.
"It’s just really on it’s last legs," Amy said. "It’s really old and the transmission’s going out of it."
Since then, the family has been able to get it home, but it’s not a reliable vehicle especially with an ailing child. And Amy says, they’re strapped financially.
They’re hoping someone can answer their prayer for a dependable car.
"I dropped to my knees the other day and I prayed to God<" she said. "I know we’ve got to keep moving forward, but it’s hard."
