Child Identified In Fatal School Bus Accident/UPDATED/State Route 60 Reopens

A school bus accident has claimed the life of a Nashport Elementary School student. It is the first school bus death in Ohio in 40 years. The Highway Patrol identifies the child as six-year-old Kasey King. It happened on State Route 60 North near the Muskingum County Speedway. State Route 60 between Powelson Drive and Northpointe Drive (Dresden side) was closed due to the accident for over 7 hours….but as of 3:20 was reopened to traffic.
Authorities say there were seven children on the bus and King was killed. As of 12:00 noon Genesis Health Care reports five children, ages 6 to 11, were taken to Good Samartian Hospital treated and released to their parents. A sixth child was treated and Good Sam and then transported to Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
A call came in to authorities just after 8 Wednesday morning of a school bus crash near the Muskingum County Speedway. WHIZ’s Ashley Drane reported the bus was on its top in a ditch. The School bus was on its way to Nashport Elementary. Medflight took the driver, Carol Oler, of Tri-Valley bus 26 to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with critical injuries.
The accident damaged a power pole so American Electric Power is on the scene along with Guernsey Muskingum Electric Cooperative.
The Tri-Valley School District website issued this statement: "A Nashport School Bus was involved in an accident this morning. The driver and seven students were on the bus. All parents of involved students have been notified."
The Highway Patrol has issued the names of the students who were in the school bus this morning: Shae Burkhart of Dresden, Drew Burkhart of Frazeysburg, Jasie Wright of Frazeysburg, Caden Campbell and J. Cody Campbell, both of Frazeysburg and Josey Boyd of Dresden.
