Moving Tribute Comes to Y-City
A moving tribute to the fallen heroes of Lima Company is on display in downtown Zanesville.
In 2005 twenty-two marines and a navy corpsman from the company lost their lives while serving in Iraq. Their lives and deaths inspired artist Anita Miller to create an eternal memorial to these men which can be viewed at Secrest Auditorium.
"In the studio it was really pleasant because I could feel their company and I could feel their help if maybe I painted a nose too long or something," said artist Anita Miller. "I felt like I had a lot of help."
The manager of Secrest says it’s an honor to have this monument in our area on the 5th Anniversary of many of their deaths.
"There are many memorials that are statues or pictures and you can say I relate to that," explained John Kunkle manager of Secrest. "When you stand here and gaze into the eyes of these men you know that they represent loved ones."
The memorial will be on display until mid August Monday through Friday from 8am-4pm. They’ll be extended hours for the First Friday Art Walk July 2nd from 5 to 9pm, Taste of Zanesville Wednesday July 14 from 5pm-8pm and the Y-Bridge Arts Festival Friday August 6 from 5PM-10pm and Saturday August 7 12pm-9pm.
