National Day of Dance
It’s time to get up and get moving. July 31st marks the National Day of Dance.
The local group, Dancing Divas, was pulling people out of the crowd at the Colony Square Mall to join them for a little fun. They were able to learn a dance routine that had some turns, techniques from line dancing, and a little wave of the hand. The women say dancing offers many benefits to people.
"Coordination. It’s also great for your mind, which is something great as an older dancer and the Dancing Divas. It’s for mind, spirit, community, and friendship-lots of friends, " says the group’s Vice President, LeAnne Bader-Mock.
Dancing is also becoming more popular, especially within the past few years.
"I think the shows, like "Dancing with the Stars, "So You Think You Can Dance", and "America’s Best Dance Crew" on MTV has really brought the awareness back of what a great health benefit dance is, " says Bader-Mock.
Dancing helps get people moving, and Bader-Mock says it’s a lot of fun. The activity was also just pushed to the forefront when Gatorade named dancing as an actual sport.
