Crooksville Continues Clean-Up
Clean up in the Perry County community of Crooksville continues Friday as they try and recover from Thursday’s tornado.
Video taken from a cell phone Thursday night on State Route 93 shows a tornado touching down in the area. It’s just one of many photos and videos surfacing on the web. For those dealing with the damage they are living these images.
"You could hear like a crash," said Donald Batson. "That was about it."
"I first heard a lot of power, but when I was in the kitchen underneath that table there was a lot of force coming from the back of the house and the windows started busting and debris started flying through the house," explained Teresa Laughlin.
These residents like others spent the day sifting through debris.
"We just lost everything," said Del Laughlan. "It’s just unbelievable unless you see it was your own eyes."
"I knew it was bad when I looked out the front door," added Teresa. "It just looked like a bomb or something had hit."
State Route 93 here in Perry County has become quite the sightseeing stop. As people take pictures along the roadway, but the law enforcement is asking on thing of those traveling in the area.
"The message I would like to ask of your public is if you have business down here come through," said Perry County Sheriff William Barker. "It’s going to obviously attract people but sometimes that interferes with what the crew workers are trying to do here."
Electronic crews are busy trying to restore power to the area which American Electric Power hopes to have back on by midnight Sunday.
Crooksville Fire Department is also checking township roads in the area to have a better assessment of the damage. The National Weather Service is investigating.
