Blue Service Honors Fallen Heroes

September has taken on a time of remembering emergency personnel for many Americans since the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

Saturday, Trinity Episcopal and First United Methodist churches in Newark along with St. James in Zanesville joined together for a "Blue Mass" to honor those law enforcement in our area that have lost their lives while serving. Reverend Kathryn Clausen said the mass was considered a funeral service since so many have passed away.

"We express our gratitude and thanks to everyone in the protection service," said Clausen. "Fire departments, police departments, highway patrol for everything they do for us every day."

Several members of area emergency groups were present at the mass. One in attendance said the event gave him time to think about the ultimate sacrifice.

"It’s a time of reflection fo those that I personally served with that we lost in the line of duty and those that came before us," said Lt Troy Mielck of the Newark Fire Department.

While this year was the first for the "Blue Mass" Clausen said they will hold this again next September.
