Culinary Arts Department Prepares for Souper Bowl

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zane State College’s Culinary Arts Department is already preparing for the 22nd Annual Souper Bowl event on Sunday.
The event benefits organizations such as the Christ’s table, Eastside Community Ministry, Fellowship of Christ’s Community, Muskingum County Center for Seniors, and the Salvation Army. This luncheon is made to give back. In the past 21 years, nearly 200 thousand dollars has been donated back to the community. The food is prepared by the Zane State Culinary Arts Department. Program Coordinator for the Culinary Arts Department, Marco Adornetto, says the students have been working hard and this event is a great way to show off the department.
“These here, these are second year students working here today. On Sunday, I’ll have both first and second years and it’s a great way for them to see how you do large quantities of volume of cooking. Usually we’ll do maybe like a gallon or two gallons of soup well, this they’re doing large quantities,” said Adornetto.
This is a larger scale event than what the students are used to, but this is a good way for them to learn how to cook with larger containers and quantities. They showed up at 8 a.m. on Thursday, to start prepping the soups. Culinary Arts student, Sarah Sampson, says they are busy but it’s a fun event.
“If you can come out, enjoy it. It’s a good time. We had a lot of fun last year. We’re busy back here but it’s a good event, it helps out the community. It’s fun and we like doing it,” she said.
The Souper Bowl luncheon starts at 10 a.m. on October 21rst and takes place at the OUZ Zane State Campus Center.
