ZANESVILLE, Ohio – United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties has teamed up with Zanesville Think Tank of Poverty and the Zanesville Civic League to host a poverty simulation.

The theme is a month in the life of ALICE, Asset, Limited, Income, Constrained, and Employed. Becky Clawson, Community Impact Director, said 65% of Zanesville city limits is living in this income threshold where they’re struggling to make ends meet, they are working but looking for creative solutions.

“And we really want to bring to light what that looks like in a month’s time and their budget financially and some of the struggles and challenges that they face,” Clawson said.

She said they are proud to partner up with the Zanesville Think Tank and Civic League and they’re all excited to bring the educational opportunity to Muskingum County. There is going to be someone there that will start out the night by sharing their expertise on the topic and discuss why this is a great way to get involved.

“Then we’re going to walk through the simulation and it’ll be really lowkey. You can just go station to station and learn about what that budget looks like for many everyday needs that you have in your own household so housing, transportation, food, those kinds of things,” Clawson said.

The event takes place at the Zanesville Civic League Community Center on Tuesday, October 30th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It is free to attend and open to the community, however they would like people to call (740) 454-6872 and RSVP.
