Help Stuff The Box

Stuff The Box

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The cold weather is right around the corner and one community member wants to help keep dogs warm.

Penny Galigher is asking for donations of straw to help Muskingum County Humane officer Carolyn Hughes when responding to calls about dogs left in bad weather conditions. Galigher said she wanted to hold the drive after a post she saw on Facebook last winter.

“It has a box with a blanket in it for bedding and the blanket was pulled out with the chain and it was all frozen and everything so that made the chain shorter where the dog couldn’t get in the box,” said Galigher.

Humane Officer Carolyn Hughes said the straw keeps dogs warmer than blankets or other materials and that any donations would be appreciated.

“It has helped a lot of dogs and it’s so much warmer for them,” said Hughes. “The blankets freeze, they do get their chain tangled in the blankets, so straw is the best thing.”

Galigher said they will be accepting straw donations at Tractor Supply on Maple Ave from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. November 10th and that the straw does not have to be purchased from Tractor Supply. She said straw from any place will be accepted along with other donations such as trash bags and water dishes.
