Salvation Army asking for turkey donations

Thanksgiving

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – With only about two and a half weeks until Thanksgiving one local organization is asking for food donations.

The Salvation Army in Zanesville is asking for donations of turkeys for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. Employee Bill Gheen said they cook up quite a few turkeys every year for the dinner to serve the 800-1000 people who come.

“We’re asking people out there to help get turkeys to prepare for them,” said Gheen. “I usually prepare 50 of them when I do it.”

Gheen said they are not only collecting turkeys for their Thanksgiving dinner, but for their Christmas boxes as well.

“We are going to do like 800 Christmas boxes and we’re going to try and buy some and get some to give to the families at Christmas,” said Gheen.

Gheen said donations of turkeys, along with other food times like green beans and stuffing, can be made at the Salvation Army main entrance between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. or after hours at the shelter.
