Genesis Hospital Gifts For Christmas Baby

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Every year, Genesis Hospital does something special to celebrate the birth of the first baby born on Christmas Day.

This baby is the “Christmas baby,” she was a baby girl this year. The family decided to remain anonymous. But the hospital made the baby a cute, little Christmas stocking. And offered the family a basket of baby items, making this a special day for the newborn baby.

“All of our babies that are born on Christmas get put in this little stocking, that one of the girls that we work with makes for all the babies. And our Christmas baby will be getting this gift basket,” said Genesis Hospital nurse, Melanie Derry.

Derry also said most hospital employees planned their Christmas with their families around the actual day, but spirits were still high at the hospital.

“Well we’ve all worked around it, so we’ve already celebrated our Christmas cause we knew we were working on Christmas Day. However, eleven years ago, I was in the same position as this family, as my little Granddaughter was born today so I’d like to wish Jocelyn Briner a happy eleventh birthday,” she added.

The Christmas baby gift baskets are offered as a donation to the hospital.
