Rox Self Defense Workshops

Self Defense Class Field House

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Fieldhouse Family and Wellness Center held a self-defense workshop for women in the community.

Rox is a non profit organization committed to the health, education, safety, and empowerment of women. Rox puts on self defense workshops for women of all ages, and girls ages ten and up. The workshops are free of charge and helps women boost their confidence and self esteem. Most importantly, it teaches them safety and violence prevention.

“It’s important for our community to have a workshop like this in order to help women feel empowered and safe in their community. We’ve learned through research that the bad guy in society doesn’t necessarily have to be stranger danger, it can even be somebody we know in our lives. So it’s important for women to have these skills and this knowledge and these tool sets to use in case they’re ever in a situation where they feel unsafe,” said Katie Snider, Rox Facilitator.

The workshops cover the five levels of self defense, then they teach verbal and physical self defense. Snider said Rox encourages young girls to participate in the workshops as well.

“Our hope is that they have those skills and they become confident women in the future. So in order to combat the issues that women are facing, let’s start them at a young age with girls in order to help them feel confident throughout the years,” she said.

The next Rox program is for girls in grades 7th, 8th, and 9th, starting on Thursday, January 31st. There are spots for ten girls available.
