NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Village of New Concord Police Department is inviting the community to contribute to their K-9 Officer Fund.

The new K-9 Program is aimed towards assisting Officers with patrol and narcotics detection. Police K-9’s require specific training to assist law enforcement in ways other tools cannot, for example with their sense of smell. They are important because they help officers do their jobs safer and faster.

“Methamnetamine, heroine, crack/cocaine, stuff like that, doesn’t have a certain smell. That’s where we bring a k-9 into the picture, and if that dog alerts onto a vehicle, that gives us probable cause to get in and find those narcotics of the street,” said Patrol Officer, Jeff Traub.

The donations will go to the program needs including; purchasing and training the K-9 Officer, purchase of a cruiser for transportation, and medical needs and annual exams. The goal of the New Concord Police Department is to raise thirty thousand dollars.

“It’s solely through donations, and that’s one of the big things that we want people to know. That’ll help us keep us going. I think a lot of people will be shocked to see how many drug cases that we get when we have a dog because we can also use that to help other agencies out,” Traub included.

To contribute to the K-9 Officer Fund, donations can be made at or mailed to the New Concord Village Hall.
