State Fire Marshal: New Lexington Fatal Fire Investigation Continues

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says an investigation is continuing into Monday’s fatal fire in New Lexington. Public Information Officer Brian Bohnert says as of now the cause of the fire, which claimed the life of two children, remains undetermined. But Bohnert say he can confirm that the fire originated in the kitchen, near two portable space heaters, and there were no smoke detectors in the home. However, Bohnert says his office can’t confirm if the space heaters themselves caused the fire. He says investigators still have follow up interviews to conduct this week. The fire occurred just after 12:30 am Monday in the 300 block of North State Street and claimed the lives of a 3 year-old male and a 7-year-old female and injured other family members.
