Genesis Hospital Announces Restrictions Due to Flu

Genesis HealthCare System Tuesday announced that in response to the high incidence of flu in our area visitation is limited in all areas of the hospital to individuals 18 and older, immediate family only, two visitors per patient and those free of flu symptoms including cough, fever, sore throat, body aches and vomiting.

Flu symptoms last three to seven days.  Most people can recover at home without medical care.  However, if there are emergency warning signs of flu in children or adults to the Emergency Department immediately.

When to Go to the Hospital: Emergency Warning Signs in Children

Signs include fast breathing or trouble breathing; bluish skin color; not drinking enough fluids; not waking up or not interacting; being so irritable that the child does not want to be held; flu-like symptoms improve, but then return with fever and worse cough; or fever with a rash.

When to Go to the Hospital: Emergency Warning Signs in Adults

Adult signs include difficulty breathing or shortness of breath; pain or pressure in the chest or
abdomen; sudden dizziness; confusion; or severe or persistent vomiting.
