Student found with loaded weapon at school

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–Officials said a Zanesville Middle School student was taken into custody Thursday after being found with a loaded gun at school.

Zanesville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Doug Baker said a student reported seeing another student with a weapon.

Dr. Baker said the school’s resource officer interviewed the student about the accusation and the student admitted to having a loaded gun.

Dr. Baker said the firearm was secured and the student was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Officials said  the school was placed on lockdown just before lunch for a short time while the incident was investigated.

Dr. Baker said a letter was sent home with all of the middle school students about  the incident. He said a one call also went out to all of the parents in the school district.

The incident is being investigated by Zanesville Police.
