Helping to Fight Alzheimers Disease

One local club is helping to fight Alzheimers disease.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles Club here in Zanesville presented a $500.00 check to Emeritus retirement home Thursday evening; all in hopes of making a difference.

"Alzheimer’s is such a huge connection to so many people, so many people have been affected by it. The disease doesn’t just affect the person, their entire family is brought into the disease," said Emeritus Executive Director Dawn Huffman.

While the money won’t be given directly to the facility, Huffman says it’ll aid in research and studies necessary to help find a cure. She says locally they try to do their part to help.

"Emeritus has a memory care unit and our unit is specifically designed to care for those individuals and those families with Alzheimers and Dementia of all forms," she said.

The Alzheimer’s Association reports that 5.3 million people have Alzheimers disease and it’s the 7th leading cause of death.
