Clocks Back Means More Night-Driving

We’ll all be getting an extra hour of sleep this weekend, but AAA warns that means more night-time driving in harsher conditions.

Studies show that the risk of being involved in a crash is more likely when it’s dark outside. With Daylight Savings ending, night-time driving will be more prevalent. That’s why a Winter-weather tune-up is a good idea.

"Making sure vehicles are cleaned-up so that windshields aren’t dirty or have a film on them. Make sure all lights are in working order and vehicles are running correctly," says Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Most importantly, pay attention and slow down. Deer on the roadways are also a problem at this time of year.

"At night time, your focus is more on the road and not so much your surroundings because you can’t see as much, and so I think people get in a hurry and don’t pay attention as much," says Sheriff Lutz.

The clocks go back one hour starting at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, and remember, to always use caution when driving.
