Wristbands Sold to Raise Money

One local boy is receiving a wealth of community support.

Eight-year-old Cameron Taylor was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer in June and had to have part of his left leg amputated in September due to medical complications. The Nashport PTA decided to find a unique way to help raise money to assist his family with medical bills.

"One of our Nashport parents actually had the idea of doing the wristbands and we knew that Cameron really liked hunting and the outdoors, so that’s where the camouflage came in," said Co-President of Nashport PTA Amanda Evans.

Evans said they successfully sold more than 500 wristbands for a dollar a piece last Friday. She said they even received additional donations collecting more than $600 altogether.

"I don’t think that it really surprises me, but it definitely makes you feel good to see all the community members and all of the students in the district come together for something like that."

She said they plan to order more wristbands to sell at other schools in the district. Cameron has recently been fitted for a prosthetic leg. He is still undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
