Salvation Army Emergency Shelter
The Salvation Army emergency shelter made Christmas a little more special for several individuals.
The emergency shelter at The Salvation Army welcomed around 16 individuals through their doors on Christmas. Shelter Manager Karen Walker says there has been an average amount of people coming in and out of the shelter over the holidays, but soon, they will see an increase in numbers.
"We should see a pick up in individuals coming in over the next couple of weeks. Of course, it’s cold outside and we always see a pick up in that point in time," said Walker.
With the community’s generosity, Walker says everybody at the shelter was able to receive a gift on Christmas.
"We went out and purchased clothing baskets. So we filled them up with all kinds of stuff, hats and gloves and just all kinds of goodies. It was exciting, the shelter folks enjoyed it, they loved it, and we just made sure everyone that came through had a Christmas gift," said Walker.
Walker says fortunately there are extra baskets left over from the holiday season that she has put on hold for future residents.
