Paul Emory Studio

One local art studio is opening its doors to the Zanesville community Friday evening.

The Paul Emory Studio will be open for First Friday Art Walk this week.  Emory is a key member of the formation of the downtown Zanesville Artists Colony.  And although he is most familiar with narrative paintings, he says his most recent focus has shifted to landscapes.

"Around here, there is certain areas I just love. I am going there every year and I am painting that same subject even though each year the painting is slightly different. It’s fun to find these locations and go back and paint another version of it," said Emory.

Emory wants to welcome the community to First Friday on January 7th from 6-9 PM.  The event will have live music, open mic, and a variety of artists working at the studio.  Emory says it is important for the community to come out on Friday night to be able to see the growth in the arts.

"One thing is to take another look at our downtown and see what the artists are doing here. We are really the ones responsible for picking up the old buildings that nobody wants and turning them into spaces like this. It can give people a new awareness of our downtown," said Emory.

The Paul Emory Studio, a building which was built in 1876, is located on Rear Main Street in Zanesville.
