City Salt Supply
Zanesville city crews have been busy the last couple of days trying to keep local roads clear and salted. But with the city’s tight budget will the salt supply last the season?
The city has salt stored away and more ordered. They anticipate the supply will last the season. Salt is not used every time it snows.
" It depends on how the snow gets to us and how quickly it comes down because if the temperatures are too low the salts not really affective " Michael Sims, Director of Public Service.
When it is too cold sand is their option. Sims notes barring a huge snow storm the city should be ready and a contract they have with O-DOT makes salt more affordable.
"Right now we are sitting pretty good because fortunately we have a temporary budget in place otherwise, we would have been pitched a little harder" said Sims.
When there is more snow, they will start by salting the hills. On flat streets they will see if only salting the intersections works.
