Mom Sentenced On Custody Charge
An area woman accused of interfering with the custody of her child is sentenced to prison. 48-year-old Murita Newman went before Judge Kelly Cottrill and was sentenced to 11 months in prison after pleading guilty to the charge. In October of last year Newman was arrested after she took her 7-year-old son from his grandparent’s home at 1105 McIntire Avenue to West Virginia. The grandparents had custody of the child. Newman stopped at a Wheeling, West Virginia convenience store, claimed she was lost and was questioned by police. She and the child were later returned to Zanesville.
