District 9 Brings Hundreds of Students
Some Tri-Valley students are in the spotlight tonight as they compete in the District 9 solo and ensemble event.
466 students performed today ranging from freshman to seniors. Some performers received the music as early as last summer… but most have practicing for at least a good two months. 10 judges give students a rating from one to three.
"It’s important to students b/c it builds their confidence. It builds their self-esteem. If you want a strong music program the more independent and the strong the person is individually the more strong the ensemble will be. I think it is one of the most important events students can take part in" said band director Amanda Blevins.
Blevins says those students who score a one or two receive a medallion and a confidence boost. Those who score a three receive a certificate. Playing an instrument in high school not only makes you a more well rounded person, but also gives students a glimpse and preview of what an audition is like when it comes to higher education.
"It is crucial for students that want to continue in music. Even in college" tells Blevins.
It is an annual event students can participate in up to four times. Each year the music changes.
