Dive into Scuba Diving

Looking for creative ways to exercise…. dive into scuba. See video to the left.

I was geared up and ready to go scuba dive. My instructor Captain Rick has been diving for 38 years and teaching for 10.

Before I was able to jump in Rick made sure I met the other divers and learned basic safety. Then, he reassured me and had tips for other divers.

"If they feel as though they are going to be claustrophobic do not worry about it we will show them that it is not that bad. They’ll enjoy it," he said.

So I put on my vest, got my goggles in place and stepped right into the water. I had a hard time sinking so they added weights to my vest and before you knew it I was exploring the bottom of Rosecrans pool.

"The visibility in the ocean is just as much as it is in the pool so they get use to it in the pool" said Rick.

It is not only the pool was has to get use to but, also the added weight and breathing through your mouth. Once you do have the hang of it you are ready for the ocean and Rick will take you with a crew to Florida. A group leaves in a week.

"We are going to be diving to Vanderbirk. We are also going to be doing the scuba grove in key largo. Feeding the sharks in Key Largo as well. We are going down there to feed the nurse sharks," he said.

Though I am not ready to dive into wrecks or kiss the belly of a shark like the other divers I did realize I may want to be certified and now I can say from experience that scuba diving is a great form of exercise but also a wonderful leisure activity.
