Firefighters Prepare for Old County Home Rescue

We continue our coverage of the emergency rescue training at the old Muskingum County Home before its leveled.

Thursday, firefighters prepared for Friday’s mock victim rescue by learning how to properly enter into the partially collapsed building. Firefighters were then broken down into squads ready to begin the search for victims just like a real emergency.

"If somebody’s pinned inside there, they will learn how to go through concrete walls, go through steel and things like that so we just taught them several different techniques as to how to do that," saod Matt Scarbury, Lead Instructor.

Some of the techniques involve using construction equipment, but in a very different way.

"The saws and things like that, we use those to their maximus capabilities, using full depths of the blades, then we have a few specialized concrete cutting saws to make entry into places where the concrete may be real thick," said Scarbury.

Friday, the actual mock rescue will take place starting at 8 am.
