Small Fire on Airport Rd Causes Minor Damage

A home on Airport Road in Muskingum County caught on fire Wednesday.

Crews were called to 350 Airport road shortly before one Wednesday afternoon. Perry Township Fire Chief Bruce Sindeldecker says the fire was primarily confined to a back doorwall. He says no one was home and no injuries were reported. He also says that even though the fire was minor, due to the heat of the day, precautions must be taken.

"For firemen, if we have a working fire, we actually call in extra company, we have a plan to rotate poeple in and out whether your a city firemen or volunteer firemen, the heat’s taken a tremendous toll on firefighting," said Sindeldecker.

Sindeldecker says on a day like today, they use what is called re-habbing where firefighters time each other on how long they are in the structure.

"We bring them back out put fresh people in, give them a rest, give them fluids before they go back to work," said Sindeldecker.

Muskingum County Sheriff Deputies were also called to the scene to assist. A cause has not been determined as the fire remains under investigation.
