William Bertine Near (December 27, 1918 – January 3, 2011)

William Bertine Near age 92 of Zanesville passed away Monday January 3, 2011 at Cedar Hills Care Center. He was born in Rutland, OH on December 27, 1918 a son of the late Paul Garbin and Goldie Casto Near. He was retired after 47 years of Barbering with Country Fair Barbers and served in the in the United States Navy during WW II in the South Pacific. He was an avid guitar player who played in several area bands was a member of the Lafayette Lodge F&AM and Trinity Presbyterian Church.
William is survived by his wife Norma Pickrell Near whom he married on May 23, 1946; one son David (Lee Ann) Near and one daughter Sue (Jim) Hillis both of Zanesville; two sisters Betty Wietelmann of Aberdeen, OH and Maxine Hauxhurst of Bloomington, IN; two grandchildren Bryan (Heather) Near and Nathan (Emily) Near and one great granddaughter Isabelle Near.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Robert Near.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday January 11, 2011 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE with Rev. Floyd Starr officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park. Visitation will be held the hour prior to services at the funeral home.
