Get Your Girl Scout Cookies

Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs…Girl Scout cookies are back.

Saturday marks the first day of the cookie program, and Girl Scouts will be knocking on doors with order forms in hand.  Regional Director Kendra O’Reilly said she’s teaching the girls about the history of the program as well as important safety tips.

"This just gets them excited," said O’Reilly.  "They get to see other girls that are participating in the program, and it educates them so that they can go out and educate their customers about the cookies."

This year is extra special, because the Girl Scouts are celebrating their 100th anniversary with a new lemon cookie – "Savannah Smiles", named for the hometown of the Girl Scouts founder.  O’Reilly said there’s more to Girl Scouts than just cookies.  Generations of girls have learned business and leadership skills that last a lifetime.

"Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character that make the world a better place," said O’Reilly.  "What we want the community to get out of it is that girls are learning self-confidence.  They’re learning to be courageous, and at the same time, they’re making their world, their neighborhood, their school a better place by providing service."

If you would like to buy cookies, you can call the Zanesville Service Center at (800) 292-6759 to place an order.  Group sales outside of retailers will begin in March.
