Athletes Recognized

Finding something that focuses your attention; that was the message sent by Dr. James Burson at the Muskingum Christian athlete leadership award breakfast on Saturday.

The breakfast was held at Coburn United Methodist Church. It’s purpose is to honor two outstanding christian athletes from each school district in the area. Most winners were senior athletes who had been nominated in November. Nominees qualified for a number of reasons.

"Leadership in faith driven activities that they carry within their schools in their scholastic s and sporting" Chris Channels, Committee Chair.

After breakfast those in attendance laughed and enjoyed the speech by Burson. Burson graduated from Muskingum College in 1963 and received a masters and doctorate from the Ohio State. He was brought in to speak about becoming and staying a leader. Each student there is now considered a successful leader.

"I think it is great knowing that they are able to be an impact in their community and showing that their christian lifestyle is beneficial and noticed and recognized by others around them" said Burson.

Most of the students will go on to college with plans to continue playing their sport along with continuing to be involved in their christian faith.
