Support Group Recognizes Fallen Heroes

A support group is recognizing soldiers of the past and present…
In honor of Armed Forces Day, members of the Military Families Support Group put together displays of soldiers and veterans in our area who have passed away.
"For years, we’ve been collecting obituaries and personal memorabilia whenever we know someone whose veteran in their family’s passed on. So we’ve tried to embellish the books with a little bit of that as well," said Aleta Smidt, a member of the support group.
In addition to remembering fallen heroes, the support group takes time to care for those who currently serve our country overseas.
"We send care packages to our troops, we’ve been doing that for eight years. We’ve sent over 400 care packages and we network and we buddy up with other support groups and individuals, churches in the community to help make that happen."
If you missed the display, it will be at the Kate Love Simpson Public Library in McConnellsville on May 24th.
