Man Still Hospitalized, Wife Dead In I 70 Crash

The State Highway Patrol is releasing the names of those involved in a fatal accident on Interstate 70 Saturday night.

It happened at mile marker 145 near the Gratiot exit.  Trooper Todd Henry said a Honda Accord traveling westbound crossed the median and struck a tractor trailer head-on.

The passenger in the Accord was pronounced dead at the scene.  She has been identified as 77-year-old Margaret Newberry of Reynoldsburg.  Her 69-year-old husband was driving the car.  Harry Newberry is in serious condition at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash.  He has been identified as 60-year-old Marek Niemczyk of Ada, Michigan.

Henry said it’s unknown what caused the car to cross the median.  No charges have been filed.  Interstate 70 eastbound was closed for hours as troopers investigated.  National Trail Fire Department also responded to the call.
