Carr Center Cake Auction is Underway

The 27th annual Carr Center Cake Auction is officially underway.
The cake auction table at Colony Square Mall has been up and running since 8:15 Thursday Morning. One fourth of the cakes were already auctioned off by noon. Volunteers say that the day started off strong.
"We’ve been very busy, were up a couple thousand dollars from where we were last year at this time. The phone calls have been coming in people and people at the mall have been bidding its been a great start," Auctioneer Ron Bucci said.
Although volunteers and Carr Center employees say they are pleased to be exceeding last years numbers, that is not why they are here.
" We never set a goal. Were willing to take whatever the community gives us. It’s a great orginization, It’s a great cause. A lot of money goes to the Carr Center. Whatever the community wants to gives us were going to be happy with it," Bucci said. The first day raised just over $52,700.
Six cakes are auctioned off every 15 minutes. The bidding ended at six Thursday night and will begin again at 8:15 Friday morning. The cake auction will be broadcast live on AM 1240 for everyone who can not make it to Colony Sqaure Mall on Friday.
