Punt, Pass and Kick at West Muskingum High School

Around 25 kids participated in a Punt, Pass and Kick competition at West Muskingum High School Saturday. The goal was to get kids active.
Zane State hosted the event, but the Punt, Pass and Kick competitions are sponsored by NFLPlay60 and U.S.A. football. Shelley Zimmerman, the program director for the sport and fitness management program at Zane State said it’s a way to get out into the community and help her students learn about coaching.
"We definitely want kids to be active in our community," Zimmerman said. "That’s what our students in the sports fitness management program are learning, how to be coaches, how to be personal trainers, so that’s something that we truly believe in. We just feel like this ties nicely in with our mission to get our community active. We just want to participate in the community."
The state director of Punt, Pass and Kick, Bobby White said that it’s great having Zane State express an interest in getting kids active. Zimmerman said that getting kids excited about playing outside makes it all worth it.
"We decided to do Punt, Pass and Kick because we thought it was a nice tie in for the sports fitness management program at Zane State to do something in the community starting with the younger kids, getting our name out there as well as doing something fun during football season, kind of a kick off to the season, get everyone excited about it," Zimmerman said.
This is the first Punt, Pass and Kick competition that Zane State has hosted in Muskingum County, but Zimmerman is excited to keep doing it for many years.
