Architects Of New Senior Center Give Update

The architects for the proposed senior center in Muskingum County met with Commissioners Monday.

The meeting was to update the Commissioners on the progress of the new senior center that is to be built just off State Route 1-46 near Zane State College. We spoke to Brain Addis, Lead Architect for the project for an update and the objective.

“Deliver for the seniors in the community a place where they can recreate, a place where they can have activities, join together in fellowship. The current senior center location has been in the news, is in a state or fast becoming in a state of disrepair, so we’ve been planning, developing the drawings for the new senior center.”

Addis says the building will be 31,000 square feet, which is smaller than the current facility, but has a more efficient design. Addis told us more about what the space would include.

“Some of the spaces would include exercise, multi-use classrooms, technology labs. It includes a big banquet facility, commercial kitchen to satisfy their meals on wheels program.”

The new center would be paid for through the passage of a levy the hope is to to break ground in June of 2015, and hopefully complete the senior center in 14 months.
