Zpd: Shots Fired 2 Guns Seized *update*

Zanesville Police say a 22-year-old male is in custody after a shooting incident early this morning. It was one of two incidents where police confiscated guns without permits. Captain Tony Coury says it happened just before 1:30 in the Hickory Street and Hedgewood Avenue areas. Coury says multiple shots were fired and when police responded two males suspects were fleeing the area. Officers were able to catch one male and when he was searched a .380 caliber handgun was discovered. He is identified as Dequaez Sherond Bowen of Zanesville. He is charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. Police don’t know why the shots were being fired. Captain Coury says just a few hours earlier – at around 7 p.m. officers made a traffic stop in the Pershing Road area and the odor of marijuana was detected. While the vehicle was searched a handgun was discovered under a seat. Police say the owner did not have a permit and the weapon was seized. That case remains under investigation.
