A Day for Running
Many days get designated as a celebration for various things, and Wednesday was a day to get out and get fit.
With weights clanging in the background, many people found treadmills on this year’s National Running Day. Each year, the first Wednesday in June is designated for this.
It celebrates those who want to hit the beaten trail and be active, but many people have different goals for a daily exercise routine.
“I love it, Tammy Archer said. “It just makes me feel good. Gives you the enjoyment you need to start out your day. I’ve just always enjoyed it.”
Something that Sarah Dosch agreed with, “It just makes me feel better. It gives me energy, helps me lose that baby weight. It’s why I do it.”
Helping to lose weight is only one thing that exercise can do for you. Special populations coordinator at the Muskingum Recreation Center, Brooke Smith, said the benefits run deep.
“It benefits you not only running, but any physical activity you can do, it decreases your blood pressure, you can reduce your weight, reduce your body fat, reduce your cholesterol and anything that you may be at high risk for,” she said. “It just helps us in so many ways.
Dosch even said that she brings her three kids to the rec to play in the kids corner while she completes her workout.
