A Local Perspective on Human Trafficking
A local organization is shedding light on one of the fastest-growing criminal activities in the world, at John Mcintire library.
The American Association of University Women is providing a local perspective on Human Trafficking. The program aims to educate Zanesville residents about the extent of human trafficking and ways to recognize signs for help.
"Human Trafficking is one of the largest criminal operations really in the country. There is a good amount of it that is centered in Ohio. It involves both trafficking in humans, not only as sex slaves which most people think of but, also for slave labor,"
Anderson said Toledo, Ohio is the 3rd largest area affected by Human Trafficking in the U.S and it’s important to bring awareness because it could hit closer to home than one might think.
"There may be people you know that are involved that you don’t realize their being used this way. It’s also dependent on us as citizens to work with our legislators to pass more laws for the protection of the victims not just the persecutors of the people that are committing the crime," said Anderson.
If you suspect someone is a victim of Human Trafficking call 911.
