A Look Ahead for The Animal Shelter Society in 2025

ZANESVILLE, OHThe Animal Shelter Society had a successful 2024

Now that the holiday rush is nearing its end, pet adoptions are back in full swing. Due to the rise of people purchasing pets as gifts for their loved ones, the animal shelter society took the time to combat that and focus on non-adoption related topics the past few months.

“2024 was a whirlwind, anytime you run a nonprofit 100% its challenging, but we were able to do it,” said Animal Shelter Society Executive Director April Gibson. “Our average was 119 animals in our building that we take care of daily, and we were able to do it because of our community. Our community steps up for us every time.”

The Animal Shelter Society has many events prepared for 20-25

“Yappy hour is a very successful event for us at the Zanesville Country Club, that’s Thursday March the 6th. We have a new one that’s going to be this year, it’s going to be in June, it’s called the Catsby. It’s going to be the roaring 20s. We’re going to have it at a local venue, there’s going to be more information on that. We’ve got our pet for PAWS. We’ve just got a lot of great things coming up. We’re going to have about 9 fundraisers.”

Gibson would like to thank all of you who have tuned into WHIZ’s pet of the week, our noon shows or AM1240 to hear about all of the amazing animals at the shelter. While there was an astounding number of adoptions during 2024, there were 68 adoptions from the WHIZ’s pet features alone.
