ZANESVILLE,Ohio– AAA estimates 43 million motorists will be traveling for the fourth of July holiday. And with the holiday rapidly approaching, safety is a major concern for the Muskingum County Safe Community Coalition.

State Highway Patrol Sergeant Todd Henry said the highway patrol will be increasing the number of officers on the road way.

“We strongly encourage people to drive sober and follow all of the traffic laws,” Sergeant Henry said. “Use your turn signals, let people know what you’re going to do on the roadway. Don’t follow too closely, make proper turns.”

AAA said this represents the highest fourth of July travel volume on record and 5 million more travelers compared to Memorial Day weekend. Motorists are expected to travel Thursday, June 30th to Monday, July 4th.

“We strongly encourage people to drive safely, don’t be impaired. If you are going to drink make sure you have a sober driver on call or standing by with you.”

Sergeant Henry said if you see an impaired driver call #677 to report it.
