Abbot Home has Opening

One of the best kept secrets in Zanesville… That’s what the residents call it and invite you to come check it out.

The Abbot Home Zanesville is under new management. The retirement home prides itself on providing seniors with affordable living, including a private apartment, three meals a day, laundry services, house keeping and new Executive Director, Jane Thompson said they will even make your bed. Thompson served local seniors at the Inn at North Hill and American Nursing Home for years and now says the position is her dream job.

"You can learn so much from that generation, and their morals, and their ethics and their values are something that we need more of today," said Thompson.

Thompson said there is a 24-hour attendant on staff who will be there to assist the residents in case of an emergency. Transportation is provided each week to doctor appointments and shopping. Thompson admits she plans to move in herself upon retiring.

"I told my husband theres is efficiency upstairs, I mean its huge, I said it will be perfect for us, he said oh that sounds good to me," explained Thompson.

The Abbot Home is a non profit organization…That’s how they keep their prices so low, donated money subsidizes the majority of the rent. The average cost is $750 a month and unlike many retirement homes there is currently no waiting list…rooms are available.
