Accident Safety Workshop for Emergency Personnel

Emergency responders in the area came together for an accident safety workshop on Friday.

Members of the Zanesville Fire Department and some of Muskingum County’s fire departments, and local towing companies worked together in an effort to improve emergency safety on the roadways.

“We have all these demonstrations, we have school buses sitting on tops of cars, we have semi’s on top of cars, we have mini-vans on top of motorcycles, so the gentlemen are out here seeing how these tow trucks are safely rigged,” said Doug Hobson, Lieutenant of the Zanesville Fire Department. “They’re being able to cut the cars, tunnel through the cars, pop doors, getting that victim out and getting them to the hospital.”

This is the second year for the workshop. Ron Myers of Pine Tree Towing & Recovery in Cambridge, and Jerry Sode of A-One Towing in Zanesville helped put on the event.

“Our main focus is life-safety, that is the main thing and part of that life safety is removing secondary crashes, and where a tower comes in is we can’t prevent the first incident from occurring, so we need to work in cooperation with other responders to expedite that life-safety issue,” Myers said.

Lieutenant Hobson explained how the workshop is a great way for all of the responders to work together to ensure safety on the roadways.
