Adamsville Elementary raises cancer funds during field day

ADAMSVILLE, Ohio- One elementary school had more than just fun and games motivating their end of the year field day event.
Adamsville Elementary School teamed up with the American Cancer Society to raise funds for cancer research.
“We always like to do a community service project to end our school year so what better way than to have a field day with a purpose,” said Amber Dittmar, 6th grade teacher at Adamsville Elementary. “We partnered with the American Cancer Society and they have a relay recess program where students can walk laps, similar to a relay for life event, as a part of their field day experience and raise money to fight cancer.”
The partnership with the American Cancer Society provided additional educational resources for the students. Nutrition, sun safety and tobacco prevention information were included to raise awareness for the disease that some students are much too familiar with.
“We have students who are fighting cancer right now, we have staff members who are fighting cancer right now, we have former staff and former students who are battling cancer and certainly those that we’ve lost, so it’s kind of a cause near and dear to each of us,” said Dittmar.
23 cancer survivors were in attendance to kick off the event. The school raised a total of $1,211, surpassing their $1,000 goal.
