American Heart Month

ZANESVILLE, OH – February is American Heart Month.

For many this may mean wearing red on the first Friday in February, while for others it means making commitments to improving their hearts health.

Dr. Grant Chow, a member of the Genesis Heart, Lung and Vascular Group, talked about some of the common heart diseases they see at the hospital.

“We see a lot of folks that have AFIB.” Dr. Chow said. “That is by far the most common heart rhythm issue in adults. Our general heart teams will see the entire spectrum of heart related issues that’s from blood pressure, cholesterol management, heart attacks, and blocked arteries.”

Dr. Chow said that with the weather becoming nicer, it’s a great time to get a spring in your step and get active.

“Just get out and run your engine.” Chow said. “For about 30 minutes a day just exercise with friends or family. Just walking, jogging, rowing, those are all great things you can do.”

Dr. Chow said he also recommends seeing your primary care physician if you notice things changes like shortness of breath or a slower or faster heartbeat.
