Animal Shelter Society Pet of the Week: Meet Petunia!

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week’s pet of the week at the Animal Shelter Society Inc. is as pretty as a flower. Meet Petunia!

She’s a 2-year-old Plott Hound and Boxer mix who is spayed and ready for her forever home. She’s affectionate, loyal, and plays well with most dogs but can be dog-selective. Executive director April Gibson says she’d do great with any home as long as there isn’t a cat.

“She would do well in any home. You could have small children; it could be an older household, you know, like mine. She’s just a really, really super dog. Super loving,” Gibson said. “She does want to be around her people. She’s a people pup so we want to make sure that someone who’s not, you know, someone like me that’s gone 12-13 hours a day at work. Petunia would probably have an issue with that. She just wants to be around her people.”

The cat adoption promotion where you can take a cat home for $17.76 wraps up at the end of Aug. 1. There is also an upcoming fundraiser taking place at the Zanesville Applebee’s.

“A lot of non-profits utilize them. They’re a great company to work for. You know a lot of times we support local and that’s the way it is supposed to be. Applebee’s is also local cause they have local people working for them and also support this shelter. There’s a lot of adopters that work there, are patrons,” Gibson said. “So on August the fifth, you go in, you mention the Animal Shelter Society, and we get a portion of those proceeds and that helps us take care of the cats going out the door for $17.76.”
