ZANESVILLE, OH – This Week’s Pet of the Week has a big personality wrapped in a small package.

Meet Weasel! He’s a 5-month-old elkhound, Australian, Norwegian shepherd mix who’s neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and is searching for his forever family.

April Gibson, the Animal Shelter Society’s Executive Director, says due to his age, they fostered Weasel out to a family to see how he would do and found out he has a little bit of separation anxiety.

“He’s got to be with somebody, he’s going to struggle with that.” Gibson said. “We put him out in foster care for a couple of days to see how he would work. The folks actually work out of their home and it didn’t work because when they had stepped out, he really struggled with it and we don’t want him to struggle. That’s why we do the good vetting of the applications and the house checks that we do.”

Gibson says the Shelter is also getting ready for the second annual Music for Mutts happening on October 1st at the Animal Shelter Society.

She says they took some advice from last year’s attendees and moved the event from the summer time but there will still be great tunes all supporting a great cause.

“Bring your blankets, bring your chairs, it’s BYOB, no glass please.” Gibson said. “We’ll have Y-Bridge Brewery, TDT Band is back, you know, they’re the ones who really make it happen for us. Randy’s BBQ, and it’s only a $20 donation to come in and that helps us, to be able to take care of the animals like Weasel.”

Gibson also wanted to say a big thank you to Park National Bank for being a platinum sponsor of Music for Mutts.
